Macedonia-Evidence

This book contains material taken from the Website http://macedonia-evidence.org/ which includes the letter to President of the United States Barack Obama, supportedby by well-known scholars of Graeco-Roman Antiquity from universities, research centers and academic institutions around the world. The impetus for this task arose from the dispute between Greece and the FYROM for the name "Macedonia" which produced and disseminated misinformation and inaccuracies concerning ancient Macedonia and its king Alexander the Great. Scholars well-known for their expertise in Graeco-Roman antiquity have formed an ad hoc group to present, examine, and discuss the historical evidence concerning ancient Macedonia and Alexander the Great. The Letter to Pesident Obama, translated in three other languages (German, FYROM-Slavic & Greek) from its original English, is accompanied by historical documentation, also in four languages, that supports and verifies historical facts included in the letter. Articles by reputable and credible scholars regarding ancient Macedonia and the language of its people - taken from the webpage - are also included in the book. The sole concern and motivation of the scholars who have co-signed the letter to President Obama is that history is not revised to fit political expediencies. The scholarly community has a duty to preserve historic truth. The aim of this book is exactly that: TO PRESERVE HISTORIC TRUTH.

Today's Macedonians are Slavs, and their language is Slavic, actually it's a dialect of Bulgarian - that's why I can understand it perfectly with my Bulgarian. Btw, Aristotel was a Greek, from the Greek colony Stageira that was located in Macedonia. Stageira was a Ionian colony, so Aristotel spoke Ionian Greek. According to Hammond the Macedonians /he sees them as a Greek tribe/ spoke Aeolic Greek. Since the Greeks weren't a monolithic ethnicity, but loosely connected tribes, their differ as to their dialects, political organization, customs, clothes, etc. Anyway, Aristotel spoke Ionian Greek, and not Aeolic, so there is no reason to place him with the Macedonian-Greeks; but with the Ionic ones. He tried for many years to obtain Athenic citizenship, but he couldn't get one; so, even though for most of his life he lived in Athens, his status was as a "metic" /resident-alien, resident for a different Greek city/.

Anyway, if we accept that the Ancient Macedonians weren't originally Greek, but became Hellenised in, say 4th century BC, and spoke a not-Greek language then there is even less ground to place Aristotel as a Macedonian, due to his family being Greek and speaking Ionic Greek. So, no matter which hypothesis one supports /that the ancient Macedonians were originally Greek or not/, Aristotel being Macedonian doesn't fit with the info we have about him.
I personally see the ancient Macedonians being provincial, frontier Greek tribe, that became isolated for some time form the mainland Greeks, and became prominent at about the time of Phillip, Alexander's father.

The modern Macedonians, on the other hand, are a later ethno-cultural development, traced back to 8-9 century Slavic intrusions on the area; that was a part of the South Slavs, and up to the beginning of the 20 century was a part of the Bulgarian ethnos. At this time they decided to separate from the latter, add with a decree couple of letters to their language to distinguish it from Bulgarian, and started developing it as a separate language.

  3. i still check the ancient macedonian coins and i can understand 100% in my hellenic language that was born more than 3000 years ago! how ppl claim alexander was a "slav"??? both of the cases the anonymous wrote above still can prove lots of things! even the names of philipos & alexandros have a meaning in hellenic language like all greek ancient names! last but not least, ive already checked at least 4-5 official statements of major political skopjans, which they denied all their macedonian origin. its really disapointing how the greek goverments let this go on and on all those years...turks they are "selling" tourism with the ancient ionian greek monuments like they have been built by turks and greek sold goverments dont even care!
